Some mornings Arela knew exactly what she wanted to do that day, on others she spent her time wandering around the city searching for something - whether that something be someone to talk to or a question to be answered. On this particular day, Arela was standing in the shallow water on the coast, eating a sweet bun she had bought from a bakery for lunch as tiny fish swam around her feet picking up the crumbs she dropped.
Now Arela had always been curious about the world around her, ever since she was little she would wonder what made tops spin differently, or why some things in the family shop cost more than others. Some questions of Arela’s could easily be solved with a simple question to Nissa - a quick glance at a certain page in one of her sister’s books, but sometimes Arela didn’t want to know the answer. Sometimes she wanted to learn the answer to a question by herself.
That was how she found herself squatting in the shallow water in early afternoon with mizpahath slowly slipping off, peering into the water below. The experiment of the day? What food did minnows best like to eat. She was armed with a dozen different types of food and a ball of twine, all of which was resting just out of reach of the waves.
The current piece of food - honey. There was a small swarm around her now though it didn’t seem like the little fish liked the honey as much as they had liked the bread. Soon the water had diluted the honey, leaving the twine bare and the fish had moved off - disinterested once they realized that the new food was sweet. The minnows may have gotten bored but Arela still had three foods left to try.
