Once, long ago, a legendary Golden Age ruled the skies. But following the return of the Titans and the subsequent demolition of Mount Olympus, there settled an uncanny presence over the dimension. The Olympians were defeated, Zeus was, after a thousand lifetimes of feats, finally overpowered— but something remained. Brewing in the bellies of thirteen women scattered across Earth was a celestial presence, each bearing a distinctive powerful energy in its own right. Nine months from now, these omnipresent entities, along with all the other Gods within the pantheon, would be born into the world as a reincarnation of their former selves, fated to discover their true identities and return to Olympus. All unless something or someone stood in their way.
Seemingly upon providence, the city of Olympia, California was built and established over centuries, located in place of what would be known to another universe as Los Angeles. And, with the passage of time, it proved to be the true city of dreams; the city not of angels, but of new gods. Now, as carved into stone, all paths of our fallen would lead here. January 1997.
New Gods is an original role play with a throwback twist, bringing elements from Greek Mythology into the contemporary world of the 1990’s. Set in a city/county based on Los Angeles, California (here known as Olympia, California), New Gods combines a world of seedy, heavy, fast-paced West coast life and core Greek mythological credo to create a surreal, dream-like story. Inspired by dark, subversive cult classics of the late 90’s and early 00’s (Fight Club, Donnie Darko, Dark City and The Matrix), the 90’s trend of taking classic, romantic literature and adapting it for the cynical, disaffected “MTV Generation” (Romeo + Juliet), modern fantasy series (American Gods, Lucifer, The Leftovers and Lost), and the work of Neil Gaiman (The Sandman).
