Mentor Applications Open
Hey everyone! Before I start advertising and we start getting some larger numbers of newcomers headed our way, we need a strong Mentor team to be there to receive them, answer questions, help them with their apps and generally just welcome to them to the site!
As people will have seen, Maxie has recently taken over the role of Mentor Moderator (and Berry the open Community Moderator slot) so now we're in need of a Mentor Team!
Just to confirm for everyone what the Mentor role is:
The Teams that help to run our lovely Aeipathy here are the Staff Team, the Mentor Team and the Network Team. The Network Team are managed under the Network Moderator (who is a member of the Staff Team) and the Mentor Team are managed by the Mentor Moderator (another member of our Staff Team). This triangular set up helps more people help to make Aeipathy great and keep it running smoothly but doesn't leave us with a dozen strong staff team without structure or guide. As such, anyone taken on as a Mentor will report directly to Maxie who reports directly to me (mwahaha for I am all powerful).
Now that we've gotten the structure out of the way, here's the responsibilities of a Mentor:
ON-GOING RESPONSIBILITIES
-- Greeting and welcoming Newcomers when they join the Discord server.
-- Generally being pleasant company on the site's Discord server.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
(with Members that are assigned to them)
-- Guiding Newcomers through the sign up process.
-- Answering questions regarding our application system.
-- Directing Newcomers to the appropriate sections of our Encyclopedia to find needed information.
-- Helping with character development and getting an application completed and ready for review.
-- Helping Newcomers apply any revised or reviewed application feedback if not accepted straight away.
-- Directing a newly accepted Newcomer to the appropriate Event threads and plots that would be good starting places for their stories/plotting.
Please note that after the initial help getting the character off the ground, an Accepted Member then becomes the responsibility of our Community Moderators. A Mentor's job is to help with the initial get-go of Newcomers, encourage them in their joining process and get them to a point where they have a character already engaged in a few threads. After that, your only job with that member is to be a lovely peer and fellow writer, focusing your attentions on other Newcomers coming in.
If you're interested in becoming a Mentor, please note that you're required to meet the following considerations:
APPLICATION REQUIREMENTS
-- You must have two characters (or more) on site who are born of two different kingdoms (this ensures a decent read up of our encyclopedia and knowledge of our world).
-- You must have a collective total of 40 posts across your characters.
-- You must be active on Discord and in RP. If you are someone who disappears for large chunks of time, or is posting in the absence-reports channel more than others do, then whilst we still love you and have no issues with such things with you as a member, we require our Mentors to be more publicly active than that (it can be unsettling for a Newcomer to see their Mentor regularly reporting absences, for example).
-- You must be a people person. Sometimes helping to enlist and aid a Newcomer can be frustrating or take longer than we feel it should. Everyone learns differently and works and writes at different paces. We all come from different places, cultures and education systems and we don't all think alike. What is simple to you might not be simple to others. A strong acceptance and understanding of this and a willingness to be patient and help others with friendliness and an efficient speed is important! We all have lives and RL commitments, but being a Mentor is not something to be taken lightly. You will be someone first point of call for all things Aeipathy related and speedy responses and a welcoming demeanour are critical.
Think you fit the bill?
If you're interested in becoming a Mentor, it's super easy to apply! Just DM 200 words on why you think you would make a good Mentor, to Maxie on Discord! She'll send you a message back to confirm the receipt and we'll be selecting two Mentors from the applicants on the 29th April.
Best of luck y'all! <3
