New Discord Channel
Hey everyone! When on Discord, check out our lovely new feature - the #quiet-room. Yes, yes I know you recognise the name but I deliberately changed the quiet room to the green-room so that we could reappropriate the name for this new feature. And now that we've had a few weeks to get used to the new name, I'm bring in said new feature.
The Quiet Room is a channel that can be read by everyone but can only be posted in by Staffers, Mentors and Newcomers. It's a quiet space where newbies can ask any questions they might have and where the staff can help them out. But it's also a space for the quieter members of our community. If you are someone for whom the general is too noisy or you prefer to get to know others in a smaller group before you branch out more onto the general, you can request to be added to the #quiet-room. You'll be given permissions to post in there just like with the Newcomers. This way, you can get to know the new people and make friends in a quieter space.
This channel is really the development of some groups we've been holding in DMs for similar purposes. However, group DMs only allow up to 10 members, so this is a way that we can have more people talking to each other without it becoming intensely busy.
Pre-warning, if you are known to be a loud and confident member on our general chat, the likelihood is you will not be permitted to join the quiet room. Please don't take this as an ostricisation - you are not being kept out of things (which is why everyone can see read and react to stuff in the quiet-room) but we've tried a quiet room experiment before as a channel and it ended up becoming an alternative general, despite our staffs management. Ergo, this one is going to be a little more stringent. Remember - if you want access to the #quiet-room simply DM me, JD, and I'll get you added. <3 Provided you're not a noisy bugger
