Kallista was immediately alerted by another Priestess when one of their own returned to the temple severely wounded carrying one of their own dead in her arms and that another was kidnapped. The High-Priestess hurried to the infirmary with a haste no one has seen in a very long as the High-Priestess was almost running to find her sisters. Kallista was led into the infirmary to see several Midwives tending to the wounded Priestess who was moaning and yelling in pain, though it is a blessing from Artemis that every Priestess was trained in herbalism and medicine for moments like these. The Priestess was bleeding badly from her stomach, though Kallista was already briefed that the Priestesses were attacked on the road by men trying to assault and rob them, hearing that they were chaste women. Kallista was disgusted, but she could not think heavily on her vengeance just yet as she needed to see that her sister would survive the night, Artemis willing. Kallista stood at the opening of the infirmary carefully watching the Midwives work on the groaning Priestess, before her eyes trailed to the dead Priestess laying on a cot with her crossed upon her chest. The woman in white moved across the room, her eyes glancing at the wounded Priestess, before coming to her fallen sister’s side.
The High-Priestess placed a hand on the woman’s forehead, not a single tear fell from Kallista’s eyes, but that did not mean the High-Priestess was not mourning the loss of a sister priestess. Kallista was angry, she could feel the rage touching every part of her being as she felt it in her chest most of all. The lady’s face was stern and angry, before she relaxed her face to say prayer upon the Priestess’s body. After the prayer the High-Priestess spoke, “You were murdered by a man of cowardice, though our Lady will avenge your death and I will be the hand she uses to do so – I swear to you, Anaea.”
A Priestess placed a hand on Kallista’s shoulder to catch the High-Priestess’s attention, and upon turning to see her, Kallista saw the grim look on her face as she shook her head to signify the death of yet another Priestess. Kallista shared that look, before she turned to the rest of the room to speak reassuringly, “Tonight we have loss two sisters by the hands of men… Though please find solace in that our sisters no longer shall feel the pain of this world and that will enjoy eternal peace with our goddess.” The room was silent, but she knew her words were heavy on the hearts that were in the room. The blue-eyed woman spokes strongly, “By the strength and might of our Lady Artemis, our sisters will be avenged, and our sister shall be returned home – This I promise.” Immediately, the High-Priestess left out of the infirmary with a rage upon her face that wasn’t expressed until she was in her own chambers. Kallista stood in her room wanting to call all of her Priestesses to hunt down and kill the bastards who murdered her sister priestesses. Although, she did not want to sacrifice any more of her sisters as two losses were enough to bare, and already tears were shed by some. Kallista must do this alone, she must show her strength and the determination of their goddess. Kallista will avenge her fallen sisters and she will bring back Melais.
**The Next Day**
All there was is the sound of thunderous stomps of two white horses as the galloped across the lands of Illytia as she traveled to Nethisa. Kallista rode her steed so fast that the wind was whipping her hair back as she practically ran like the wind. The only thing on her mind was vengeance as she wanted those men to pay for what was done to her sisters. It was a while, before the Priestesses arrived at Eubocris upon the Barracks of the Scorpion’s sting, a soldier unit based in the province. Through Kallista’s own investigations, the scoundrels were residents in Eubocris, where her Priestesses were before they were attacked. Kallista had half the mind to kill them, but she knows the law of the land and would rather consult with the authority – first. The High-Priestess and her accompanying Priestess gracefully slid off the sides of their horses, taking a few steps at the guarded entrance. Kallista kept her hood covering her head, though her face was visible enough to see, though both Priestesses were asked to stop, “Halt, what is your business?” Immediately, Kallista and the Priestess stopped, though neither one liking to be told what to do. Kallista held her chin high as she spoke, “I am Kallista, High-Priestess of the Cypress Sisterhood and I request council with your captain.”
