Xene was an early riser. She always had been and it was a difficult habit to get out of. She woke early, slept late, and filled her days with as much activity as she possibly could. These days, she tried to stay busy at all times. It was one of the few ways that she was able to keep her mind off the grief and off of whatever impending doom she was feeling that day. But some days Xene found that what she really wanted to do was pretty much… nothing.
Shirking her duties as princess every once in a while was a-okay in her book. Even a people person needed to recharge. But those days often came with the feeling of loneliness, another demon that Xene was trying desperately to avoid.
That morning she had woken early as usual, but had decided to laze in bed for a while. She listened to the birds outside while get cat snoozed peacefully at her side. Trailing her fingers into vibrant orange fur, Xene stared at the ceiling of her room, debating what exactly she could fill her day with. Stephanos was out of the question. The queen was so heavily pregnant Xene was hesitant to bother her… and she refused to allow herself anywhere near the Lord Leventi at that time. Too many confusing emotions. Too much frustration and a deep insecurity in determining her own feelings.
No, Xene's choice of action that morning was simply to ignore everything else. She washed and dressed without her ladies in waiting, donning her favorite soft pink chiton and leaving her blonde hair down with no plans on actually styling it. She planned to meet no nobles or senators or even courtiers. But she did plan on impressing her company on her sister. Her sister that she had missed out on too much time with in the last few months.
With this in mind, Xene navigated the halls of the palati. It took nothing to get the guards to let her into Gianna's room. Padding on silent bare feet across to her sister's bed, Xene found herself flopping beside Gianna and draping an arm across her body. "Gia, my beautiful, sleepy sister," she hummed sweetly as if to coax her sleeping beauty from sleep, poking her gently in the side for good measure. "I think it's time we be lazy princesses for once," her voice was sing song, hoping it would be enticing enough to draw her sister in for a day of relaxation, and frankly, much needed girl time. No kings. No uncles. No men.
Just the two of them.
"It's been so long," she complained as an afterthought.
