Zanon met the master informer’s gaze with an attempt at reassurance when he caught the look in his eye. He had the grace to look somewhat subdued as he played the part of loving husband once again. It was true, he and Evras were on the mend and he was glad for it, more so than he could properly say, but he would also be lying if he said he hadn’t once or twice stumbled into bed with another since the argument. Habits were hard to break, and there were so many beautiful women at court. This one before him though was not to be touched, and he gave a warm smile as the two Chaossis born subjects stepped away.
Keeping up the greeting of others, the whispers he could pick up on that floated about them spoke of the night he had tried hard to forget. Any look of calm and noble exterior, or general pleasantness really, vanished and Zanon sought those who spoke with a glare. It was bad enough that he had to remember that night, but he wanted no words spoken of it further to anyone else in the court. It was done, it was over, and that was that. His wife's infidelity as small as it was compared to his own still stung him and he found himself moving before he properly considered what he was doing.
An arm went around Evras' waist in a clearly possessive move as he once again found her still with her siblings. There were rumors to dispel after all and his mother could handle greeting the remainder on her own.
”Walk with me, if you will.”
He offered no pardoning or begging of forgiveness even out of politeness to the Thanasi clutch before him as he gave a tug at Evras with a smile pasted on his face. These rumors needed to be stopped once and for all when it came to the transgressions of his wife. They must appear as close and united as ever so the words of others could not shame him any longer.
”I do not like the discussion I have heard through the room. About the identity of your lover.” His smile stayed in place though his words were low enough for only her to hear as soon as they were away from her family. ”Smile. We cannot have them think there is anything amiss. If he is noble as they seem to say. How could it have been the man I was told it was. He is dead. And he was no noble I know.”
